Theodorou traditional pastry shop on Sifnos
On our last day on Sifnos we returned to Artemonas to visit a traditional pastry shop.
We’d been told about this sweet shop by Maria (who gave us a tour of her vegetable allotment). Maria proved to be a fantastic source of information regarding all things sweet on Sifnos and took me on a very quick tour of the pastry shops one afternoon. One shop I really wanted to return to was Theodorou, and I had my sights set on the delicious Greek sweet which is very similar to what I knew as Turkish delight.
When I returned to the store, the owner let me into the kitchen at the back of the shop. Copper pots and wood fired stoves were tucked in the corner which he explained was where the almond “marzipan” sweets were stirred and cooked for the store.
