Guide to eating, ouzo and craft beer on Folegandros
We ate very well during our stay on Folegandros. For a small island, it certainly offers good food in it's tavernas and good ouzo in it's bars.
This is a list of the places where we ate and enjoyed our evening ouzo with mezza. This is just our list, there are plenty more for you to choose from, especially in Chora.
The Windmills, Ano Merio
(from 2019 Windmills is now located in Chora)
The Windmills was recommended to us by our host at Nefeli Studios as we were leaving Milos. Whenever he visited Folegandros he would go to The Windmills for a meal, we were told. We considered this a good recommendation.
The day we visited The Windmills it was rainy and windy on Folegandros. We decided to take refuge in the 19th century flour mill that has been lovingly restored by its owners. It was cosy, the host was welcoming and we were sat at a table by one of the little cubic windows, called “thirides”, giving us a view over the island and the sea. There is also a large outdoor terrace for dining, that would be lovely on a warm day or evening.
For our lunch we enjoyed sesame crusted fried Greek cheese, greek caper salad, prawn pasta, olives, bread, beer and wine. As is customary, a little sweet treat appeared on the table at the end of the meal.
The next dish was a Greek pasta dish with prawns flavoured with ouzo.
The Windmills restaurant was part of a small complex of traditional villas, Alitanes, located in Ano Mereo until 2018. It has now relocated into the Chora.

Eva's Garden, Chora
Located away from the bustling squares of Chora, Eva's Garden is a charming restaurant. It has cosy outdoor eating areas, friendly staff and a slightly modern take on the traditional Greek Island food.
Eva's Garden doesn't have a website, but their Facebook page can be found HERE.
Pounda, Chora
Pounda is a peaceful cafe in Chora located on the top square of the Chora. We sat in their quiet garden and dined on traditional Greek dishes. Their food and drinks are served in handmade ceramics, these being made by Lisbet, the wife of Pounda's owner.
Pasithea Restaurant, Agali Bay
This cafe has a large terrace where the view of Agali bay is just as good as the food. We visited Pasithea for dinner both nights we were staying down at Agali Bay.
We enjoyed delicious seafood, cooked so simply. We were told the fish is caught fresh locally and brought in by boat to the little wharf we looked down upon from our terrace table. This restaurant serves Greek food traditionally.
My dream came true when we asked what fish was available for our dinner. I was then escorted into the kitchen and the fridge doors were swung open. All the glistening fresh fish were on display, some I was familiar with, other's not. I picked my fish, it was taken to the kitchen to be prepared. Grilled with lemon and olive oil... oh my!
On the other night, we ordered, amongst other things, the calamari, stuffed and grilled, again delicious.
The restaurant/cafe is part of a small hotel of the same name. You can view the Pasithea Restaurant website HERE.
I've written a separate post about the traditional Folegandros cheese pie with onion which can be found at an old style bakery in Ano Merio. You can read this post HERE.
There is no shortage of little bars in Chora to enjoy an evening ouzo or cocktails, many with tables set up along the walkways which are perfect for people watching! Aquarius was one of our favourites.
Aquarius, Chora
A great little cafe/bar with tables and chairs along both sides of the pedestrian path. Ouzo comes with a tasty little plate of mezze. It also served coffees through the day and had a good looking cocktail menu.

Katsika Beer
Folegandros has its own craft beer brewery. It's beer can can be sampled at various establishments around the island.
Hope you enjoy discovering your own edible experiences while staying on this magical Greek Island.
Cheers
