Traditional Greek bakery in Vivlos on Naxos
I asked several locals where the best bakery was on Naxos, as usual I need to have my Greek pastry fix! Λαγογιαννη was one bakery that kept getting mentioned. It can be found on the busy corner of the main road through Vivlos. We were staying in the next village over from Vivlos, so popping into the bakery was easy!
Walking up to the bakery you can smell sweeteners in the air, and that’s before you step into this tiny store. Once inside you are greeted with a small central display with trays of Greek deliciousness. It is self service, there’s a cake server in each tray and containers at the back. The big problem is how big a container do you choose... to fill with pastries.
I stood in the doorway between the shop front and the bakery kitchen watching biscuit trays being placed in the oven. A lady came up to me and gestured me to go further into the kitchen. There were two ladies sitting at a table rolling biscuit dough in sesame seeds. The desire to get my hands into that dough and start rolling biscuits was strong... There was little English spoken in that kitchen, but I did find out that those biscuits being made were ΜΕ ΣΟΥΣΑΜΙ .
And here’s a few extra trays of Greek pastry deliciousness.
